DocuSign e-signature: the envelope limit decides your plan

People compare e-signature tools on price per user and then hit the wall that actually matters, which is how many documents you are allowed to send. DocuSign counts in envelopes. One envelope is one send, and it can hold several documents and several signers, so a three-document closing package sent to two parties is still one envelope.

The limits, checked on 25 August 2026. Personal allows 5 envelopes per month. Standard and Business Pro both allow a total of 100 envelopes per user per year, and Business Pro lets you negotiate a custom limit on top.

Read those two units carefully, because they are not the same shape. Personal resets monthly at 5, which is 60 a year. Standard gives 100 for the whole year, so a firm that sends 15 engagement letters in January and none in February is fine, while a firm sending 10 a month runs out in October.

What you get across the plans is the same core: envelope sends, mobile signing, audit trails and reusable templates. Standard adds shared templates so a team standardises on one version of an agreement rather than five. Business Pro is where payment collection and heavier workflow live.

Our pricing note for this entry lists Personal at $11 a month on annual billing, Standard at $30 per user and Business Pro at $45 per user, both annual. Confirm on DocuSign's own page before you buy; the plan structure moves more often than the envelope maths does.
