Printify

Printify's free plan is real and it is the one most people should stay on. Free costs $0 a month, gives you 5 stores on one account and unlimited product designs, with no upfront cost. You pay only the fulfilment cost of each item you actually sell.

Premium is $39 a month, or $24.99 a month billed yearly, a 36% saving. What you get for it is not features. It is up to 33% off new products and 10 stores instead of 5. Enterprise is custom-priced with unlimited stores.

So the upgrade is pure arithmetic and Printify says so themselves: start free and upgrade only when the discounts outearn the fee. Take their own example. A t-shirt costs $8.77 to fulfil and sells for $19.99, earning about $11. If Premium cuts that $8.77 by a third, you save roughly $2.90 per shirt. At $24.99 a month on annual billing you need to sell about nine shirts a month before Premium pays for itself. At $39 monthly it is about fourteen.

Below that volume, Premium costs you money. Above it, it is the cheapest margin you will ever buy.

The two are the same kind of business with a different structure, and the price difference follows from it. Printify is a marketplace of independent print providers. Printful owns and runs its own facilities.

That is why Printify's base costs are usually lower and why quality can vary between providers for the same product. You are choosing a supplier as well as a product. With Printful you get one company's consistency and pay for it in the item cost.

On subscriptions, Printify's free plan carries 5 stores and its paid tier is $39 a month, or $24.99 annual, bought mainly for the product discount. Compare that against Printful's own plan page before deciding, because the subscription is the small number for both of them. For a print-on-demand shop the fulfilment cost per item, not the monthly fee, is what decides your margin.
